The Story Behind The Names

The Good Hearted

The name The Good Hearted was inspired by my two sons, Brandon Joseph and John Richard. As I am sure many moms do, I prayed for my sons before they were born. Most people, I would imagine, pray for healthy, happy babies. When I prayed for my boys, I prayed that they would be blessed with two things in particular: A good heart and a happy mind. 

I have found that the world can sometimes be tough and I felt as if more than anything, I wanted my boys to be a vessel for good in the world. I prayed that they would be the light for which this world is aching; that they would be kind, compassionate, and would make the world better for those who are in it, in whatever way that might be. 

As I was transitioning Mariamor earlier this year, I could not think of a better place to start. My boys, now ages one and two, are my daily focus and more often than not, my inspiration for many of the designs. Their good hearts shine for me, and in turn, I hope to shine that light for others. 

My hope is that The Good Hearted can be a call for each one of us to see the good in the world; to be a light in times of darkness, to show love when surrounded by discord, and to find the strength and courage to let our goodness shine brightly for others. As Mother Teresa said, "I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone that creates many ripples." So go on, good hearted ones, let's change the world! 

Mariamor

When creating Mariamor in 2016, I knew that the name had to be related to love in some way. I was working as a collegiate soccer coach at Pepperdine and was crafting my "Pennies From Heaven" jewelry collection on the side as a way to spread prayers and love to others. On the wall of my office, I had written one of my favorite bible verses "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms" 1 Peter 4:10. I knew that I had a passion for coaching soccer, but as our jewelry collection took off, I knew I did not want to just be in the jewelry business. I wanted to be in the business of spreading love. I used my talents and gifts as a soccer player to coach young women in soccer and guide them through different chapters in their lives. I also knew that I had a talent for brightening the days of others and spreading love and affirmations. 

And so came the idea for Mariamor name. My grandmother, one of the people who helped me most at the start of the business (being a former jeweler herself she had a TON of insight, experience, and love to share), was full Italian and raised her children and grandchildren to believe that they were all full Italians as well, whether they were or not. From her Italian inspiration, I took my name "Mary" and used it's Italian variation, "Maria," as the start of the new company name. 

The next part seemed simple. LOVE. I wanted to use the gifts and talents that I had of spreading love and joy and I wanted to share them with the world. So, the name had to include "love" in some way. I chose the word "amor" meaning love in spanish. Pushing my name and love together in another way.... Mariamor... and we made our tagline, "every day, spread love."

"Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier" (Mother Teresa)....  I absolutely could not have said it better myself ;)
